11th Judicial District Courthouse Additions & Renovations  |  Aztec, New Mexico

Initially, Greer Stafford/SJCF Architecture worked with San Juan County representatives to evaluate options for expanding and improving the existing courthouse. After considering several options — including building a new courthouse on a different site — the County chose to proceed with expanding and renovating the existing building.

Multiple phases of construction were necessary in order to keep the courthouse operational during construction. A preliminary phase added a new chiller plant. The next phase added a 25,000 SF addition that provides three new courtrooms, associated chambers areas, and a prisoner holding area. The final phase renovated a portion of the existing building in order to accommodate additional court clerks and administration.

The result is an expanded and improved facility that provides much-needed additional space while also presenting a public image befitting a distinguished institution like the District Court.
