Los Altos Swimming Pool Building Replacement | Albuquerque, New Mexico
Originally constructed in 1959, the Los Altos Pool has been one of the busiest pools in the city and has undergone several transformations. Generations of families have passed through its doors, learning to swim, playing and creating cherished memories.
The new design completely removed the 1960’s era pool enclosure building, while keeping the pool itself (which was in good condition) intact. The 1950’s bath house building, with the iconic wave roof, was repurposed during the construction. The new building responds directly to these two existing elements and creates a highly prominent front entrance. Administrative functions are specifically located to oversee the entrance and parking lot to monitor activity and counteract negative influence from the larger Los Altos Sports Complex.
New construction expands the interior space from approximately 10,000 SF to 18,000 SF, providing more spacious pool decks, locker/changing areas, a new front entrance and lobby area, new staff offices. Renovated areas include a new multi-purpose meeting room and service spaces.
